Updates on the SR2 Terminus Project at Thursday’s meeting

Meeting reminder: Updates on the SR2 Freeway Terminus

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) will present an update of their activities on the SR2/Glendale Freeway Terminus Project at the Thursday, April 5, 2012, meeting of the Echo Park Improvement Association (EPIA).  It has been 18 months since Metro last informed the community of its actions.

Although members of Echo Park Community Action Committee (EPCAC) and the EPIA were in touch with Council President Garcetti’s office, Congressman Becerra’s office, and Supervisor Molina’s office in 2011 for help in getting new information about Metro’s “hybrid” design for the Terminus Project. Metro provided little information, nor did community-led petitioning efforts draw any response from Metro.

Petitions were signed by numerous residents and business people opposing Metro’s plan to do away with street parking on the west side of Glendale Boulevard south of the “flyover” off-ramp. Petitions were also signed opposing the sound wall proposal for the southern end of the Terminus, and more were signed in opposition to the planned deletion of a left-turn lane from the off-ramp on the east side of Glendale Boulevard.

We urge to you attend this meeting to find out what, exactly, Metro has to say.

Join us for our regularly scheduled town hall on Thursday, April 5 at Barlow Hospital at 7:00 pm.

Next EPIA meeting: Updates on the SR2 Terminus Freeway project

Our next EPIA town hall meeting on Thursday, April 5 will feature a representative from Metro (MTA) to update everyone on the status of the SR2 Terminus Freeway project.

50 years ago, residents kept the freeway from expanding through Echo Park. Now that there are more and more cars on the road, the city is hoping to improve traffic flow on the increasingly congested 2 Freeway as it transitions into Glendale Boulevard. However, residents and governing bodies haven’t always agreed on the direction of the project, and the Metro has adopted plans despite resident input and concerns. At the next meeting, we’ll have an opportunity to get updates and ask questions on the project.

This is an important opportunity to learn more about the project. Bring your neighbors, friends, and roommates to the meeting on Thursday, April 5 at 7:00 pm, in Williams Hall at Barlow Hospital.

An Update on the Development Threat to Rio de Los Angeles State Park (Taylor Yards)

Founder and Director of The River Project, Melanie Winter, will speak about the status of the threat to Rio de Los Angeles State Park (aka Taylor Yards) at our regularly scheduled town hall meeting on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 7:00 pm.

The original plan was to expand the existing Rio de Los Angeles State Park to the area directly alongside the Los Angeles River. But developers are interested in building an industrial complex on the Taylor Yard, thus threatening the expansion of the State Park.

We’ll also update everyone on neighborhood projects like community clean ups, tree plantings, beautification projects, city related issues, and more. All are welcome! Bring yourself, your neighbors, your input, and join us at Barlow Hospital, located at 2000 Stadium Way, in Williams Hall.
